The brief
A novelist who wanted a home that felt like a long exhale — warm, lived-in, but not precious. The existing loft was bright, blank, and acoustically harsh.
Interior Design
A 1,800 SQFT loft reimagined for a writer who wanted softness without sweetness.
The brief
A novelist who wanted a home that felt like a long exhale — warm, lived-in, but not precious. The existing loft was bright, blank, and acoustically harsh.
The approach
Acoustics first. Bouclé, drape, a wall of vintage hardbacks doing double duty as sound absorption. Then color: deep cognac and a single bruise-pink accent so nothing read as gendered or themed.
The outcome
Three reading zones, one writing desk, no formal living room. Photographed for two regional shelter publications.
The transformation
